The cycling path is now OPEN !
Season 2008

Established on an old railway, the Jacques-Cartier/Portneuf cycling path is a direct link to Quebec by bicycle and to Montreal by train. This environmentally friendly cycling path offers a unique 68 km ride from May to October.  Exclusively reserved for cyclists, the path allows for a maximum slope of 3 %, mainly in forested areas, however it also crosses through lovely countryside and renowned vacation spots where you can enjoy other sports, leisure or cultural activities.

One of the first linear parks in Quebec, the Jacques-Cartier/Portneuf cycling path stretches along the old railway from St-Gabriel-de-Valcartier to Rivière-à-Pierre.  Since 1997 cycling enthusiasts can travel along 68 kilometres of stone dust trails.  The path is unique and offers breathtaking vistas of lakes, rivers and mountains.  It is the only trail in the Quebec region reserved for cyclists.  A haven for those who live in the city!

The Jacques-Cartier/Portneuf trail crosses through two (2) MRCs and eight (8) municipalities and is accessible from mid-May to mid-October.  For your convenience, picnic tables, toilets (some also offer drinking water) and sheltered rest areas are available in different locations along the trail.   In spite of the fact that the trail is linear, the panorama is very appealing thanks to four distinct sectors: agricultural, urban, forested and vacation. By joining the Route Verte network, the cycling path benefits from regional as well as international exposure.  It is one of Quebec’s most popular trails and thanks to its unique geography, is a much sought after tourist destination and perfect for countryside lovers. There are many sites one can visit along the way:  the Réserve de Portneuf, the Station de  Duchesnay resort, the Vallée Bras du Nord, and Lac St-Joseph beach.

The Vélopiste Jacques-Cartier/Portneuf also allows for a direct access to the city of Quebec via the Corridor des Cheminots trail; which allows cyclists to go from countryside to city in little time.
